INDIANAPOLIS – With another week of undefeated play including a victory over the top team from last week, the University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team claimed the No. 1 position in this week's installment of the NCAA South Region Rankings. At the conclusion of the regular season and conference tournaments, the rankings will be used to seed the NCAA South Regional portion of the national tournament.
Only games against Division II opponents are considered for the purpose of the rankings.
The top eight in the regional rankings make the NCAA tournament, though it is possible for less to qualify if an automatic berth is won by a team outside of the top eight. The automatic berths are granted to the champions of the three conference tournaments in the South Region – the Gulf South Conference, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the Sunshine State Conference.
The Chargers (18-3 overall Division II, 15-3 in-region) switched positions with Christian Brothers (16-5, 14-5) as the Bucs slipped to No. 2 in this week's rankings.
Eckerd (15-6, 14-5) maintained its third-place position, while Florida Tech (12-5, 12-4) improved to fourth. In fifth was West Georgia (16-7, 14-7) followed by West Florida (15-10, 14-10) and Saint Leo (11-18, 11-7) in sixth and seventh, respectively. Benedict (15-9, 15-9) holds the eighth spot, while North Alabama (12-10, 11-10) at No. 9 and Rollins (11-9, 10-6) at No. 10 complete the rankings.
