MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Emergency Management Agency Directors received some recognition from The National Weather Service for storm preparedness.

The ceremony took place at Sci-Quest in Huntsville on Wednesday.

11 north Alabama counties received awards to highlight their storm ready certification.

The event also stressed the importance of always being prepared after April 27th. EMA directors say that awareness is sharper than ever.

"I think what April 27th did is it brought to the forefront that it could happen anywhere and anytime. And it's not just a single tornado we're dealing with. When we're dealing with outbreaks, it could happen anywhere," said Anita McBurnett, Marshall County EMA Director.

The storm ready certification means a county has 24 hour warning systems and the proper notification technology in place.
