HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Madison County Emergency Management Agency Officials canceled a county wide tornado drill that was schedule for Wednesday morning for Severe Weather Awareness week.

The sirens were expected to go off around 9 a.m.

Rain developed in Madison County before the sirens were set to sound. It is EMA's policy to not conduct a siren test in rainy or stormy conditions to avoid confusion that the test is a real event.

DeKalb County will not sound outdoor weather sirens during the statewide tornado drill either.

EMA officials suggest families, schools and businesses have a severe weather plan. They also recommend that you practice your safety drill several times.

Officials said people should have a safety kit or a go bag ready. Items inside should include blankets, canned food, flashlights, extra batteries, bottled waters, an extra cell phone with chargers.

Most importantly, agents said to make sure you've packed a NOAA weather radio so you can get the latest weather alert information.
