HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Gas prices are up almost ten percent since the beginning of 2012.
Analysts say when the temperature goes up so will price of gas. Mechanics say there are many things you can do while you are driving to save on gas.
But cutting back on these things could help ease the pain at the pump.
1. Don't speed. - The U.S. Department of Energy says every fives miles above 60-miles-per-hour will cost you 24 cents per gallon.
2. Use cruise control on long drives.
3. Don't be an aggressive driver. - Weaving in and out of traffic and hit your breaks a lot can lower your mileage by 33 percent.
4. Don't ride your breaks.
5. Avoid excessive idling.
6. Don't rev the engine.
7. If you can get to where you are going in less than ten minutes, walk.
Mechanics at Express Oil Change say people come in all the time asking if there is anything they can do to help them save money on gas. They say make sure the tires and the suspension is aligned and check your tire pressure.
