MADISON, AL (WAFF) -
A Madison Police officer has been charged with DUI.
Officer Efrem Adams was involved in wreck on Old Railroad-Bed Road. Officials say his car flipped multiple times around 11:15 p.m. Sunday.
He is listed in stable condition at Huntsville Hospital. The Alabama Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of the wreck and initiated an investigation.
Madison Police Chief Larry Muncey issued a statement:
"I thank God that Efrem is going to be okay, he is a fine man, great father and a good police officer; unfortunately, if the allegations are true, his decisions will have a significant impact on his career. The Madison City Police Department is comprised of professional and dedicated officers, with tenacious desire to serve, and the citizens of Madison deserve nothing less. A complete and objective internal inquiry will be made into the circumstances surrounding the crash, once Efrem has been released from the hospital. Appropriate actions will be taken at that time if warranted."
Officer Adams was driving his privately owned vehicle. Officials say once he is out of the hospital he will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
