ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The future of a Marshall County golf course is in jeopardy. A second mortgage lender filed a lawsuit against the Albertville Golf Course Country Club for failing to pay on a loan.

Course officials say both Wells Fargo and Regions Bank have filed for non-payment on a promissory note and they are seeking more than a million dollars.

But it could also mean a loss of jobs coming to the area. Albertville Mayor Lindsey Lyons says a golf course is a useful tool when it comes to industry recruitment.

Lyons says the city looked at merging the course into the city's recreation department around six to eight months ago.

"On the other hand, we just couldn't get any support from a majority of the council so it just became a dead issue," said Mayor Lyons.

But the mayor says he isn't giving up and believes over time politics can change.

"I think if we get a progressive and aggressive city council in there and they see the viability, then I hope they'll entertain the option of looking at it and making the right decision on it," he said.
