MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Researchers with The American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology say you can thank a mild winter for getting a stuffy nose, sneezing, and watery eyes early.

Some go for an over-the-counter antihistamine and some use honey as a remedy.

At Bill's Honey Farm in Meridianville, honey expert Bill Mullins says his harvested honey is flying out the door. He even sells pollen by the bag if you want to sprinkle it over your food.

As bees go from flower to flower, they're picking up the pollen which gets in the honey and that boosts your immune system, said Mullins.

Allergy medications at Propst Pharmacy are also getting swiped up.

"Honey is helpful in some cases only lessen the severity of your symptoms," said Pharmacist Dawn Osborn. "I think it works really well and a lot of times I'll tell people to try the honey to use it because it has all the pollen from the area."

There are countless studies showing honey does work to help with allergy symptoms and some studies which say honey doesn't do a thing.

Pharmacist Dawn Osborn added you will have to determine local honey's effectiveness on a case by case basis.
