Posted: Updated:
HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama is starting to see an increase in flu activity.

The latest information from the State Health Department's shows flu activity is regional and its showing up in five counties across Alabama.

Madison and Lauderdale Counties are two of the five counties where the state health officials where lab tests confirmed the presence of influenza.

Type A influenza has been detected in Lauderdale County while both Type A and Type B have shown up in Madison County.

The arrival of flu in Alabama mirrors what is being seen across the country.

Until this month, there weren't enough flu cases in the U.S. To signal the start of the season.

This is the latest start to a flu season since the winter of 1987-1988.

So far the flu vaccine seems well-matched to the strains making people sick. Last flu season was considered average.
