FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

A Fort Payne man was accused of assaulting an officer while he was being booked for a different crime.

Fort Payne Police say they were in the process of booking 26-year-old Michael Derek Crane early Friday morning for public intoxication when he put an officer in a head lock.

Other officers were able to subdue Crane and continue the booking process.

The officer was taken to DeKalb Regional where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.

Crane was transferred to the DeKalb County Sheriff's office where his bond was set at $22,500 for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public intoxication and assaulting an officer.
