Lawmakers propose prescriptions for cold medicine

Posted: Updated:
HAMILTON, AL (WAFF) -

State Representative Michael Millican of Hamilton wants to propose a bill that will make it harder for people to buy cold medicines with the ingredients ephedrine and pseudo ephedrine.

The ingredients found in many allergy and cold medicines are used to make meth. Millican is proposing a bill that would require a prescription for medication with those ingredients.

Lawmakers would not stop the sell of regular strength pain medicines people get over the counter. Many law enforcement officers believe if the bill is passed, it wouldn't help the situation. Officers said dealers will forge prescriptions, like they do now or will find another source.

Millican sponsored a similar bill last year, but it failed to make it to the floor for a vote.
