ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Albertville city officials are concerned about a bill in the house that would change the way recyclable items are collected.

The new house bill would restrict local governments from collecting recyclable goods in favor of more private business.

Albertville Mayor Lindsey Lyons says they've worked hard to get the recycling center up and running over the last three years and fears it would have to shut down if the bill passes.

Lyons also says it would affect funding received by recycling.

"Obviously we're not having those tipping fees that we would ordinarily have so it's a cost savings there but it generates income at the center. It's a win-win situation," said Lyons.

Lyons says he is urging his local delegation to oppose the bill.
