MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
iPads will hit precincts for elections this year to streamline the process.
You will still have to vote in a booth but the iPads will go to precinct staff to better keep track of voters.
Madison County has 76 precincts and officials say it's difficult to make sure voters are in the right place and to be able record turnout numbers accurately.
The county applied for a grant under the "Help America Vote Act." The grant is around $100,000 will buy over 100 iPads.
Precinct staff, ballot delivery drivers, and sheriff's deputies will all get to use the iPads to make sure Election Day runs smoothly.
"The voting process itself is changing throughout the nation and this will be something that the probate office here will be looking at. We've had redistricting going on and the lines have been changed and this will be a tool the polling official can use," said Madison county Probate Judge Tommy Ragland.
Since the 2010 Census, district lines have changed dramatically in Madison County so election officials anticipate quite a bit of confusion with people showing up at the wrong precinct so the iPads will speed up the paper process to get voters where they need to be.
