HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Two contenders vying for the 5th Congressional District seat held a debate Saturday morning.

Republican Congressman Mo Brooks and former U.S. Representative Parker Griffith went head to head in front of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. The debate was held at the Senior Center in Huntsville.

The debate mainly focused on issues of social security and a stable economy.

"If you can't be passionate about taking care of your country's financial situation which in turn provides social security, provides national defense, what can passionate about," Congressman Mo Brooks

"What do we need to do to make sure that we come out of this? What I think we need to do is grow our way out. We need to cut taxes, reduce regulations, make sure our small businesses get incentives, make sure that our jobs that they are taking overseas are brought back into America for manufacturing," said Parker Griffith, Congressional candidate.

The election for Alabama's 5th Congressional District seat will be held in November.
