MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Deputies made a second arrest in the case of a woman in Marshall County who was assaulted and held hostage for days.

The second person was picked up, like the first, as a result of a grand jury indictment. But sheriff's officials say this investigation is not over.

38-year-old Robert Matthew Brown has been arrested on first degree kidnapping and second degree assault charges. 42-year-old Jonathan Lee Cranford of Albertville remains jailed on the same charges after his arrest earlier this week.

Sheriff's officials say the incident happened at a mobile home park off Highway 75 just north of Albertville back in late 2011 at unit 13, which is Cranford's home.

Deputy Heath Thomas said the woman in her 30's was held hostage and beaten during an ordeal that lasted a few days. In the end, she was able to get away from her captors.

Thomas said the victim did not report the incident immediately while declining comment on what prompted it to begin with.

"That's something that's still under investigation because more arrests are likely in the case as there are more actors that were involved," said Thomas.

Brown has since been released on bond, but Cranford is a convicted sex offender.  He's now being held without bond as prosecutors seek to have his probation revoked.
