FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -

A DeKalb County woman accused of killing her step-father pleaded guilty to murder in court Wednesday morning.

Jury selection was completed Tuesday afternoon in the Karri Willoughby trial. Opening statements were set to begin Wednesday morning.

Willoughby killed her step-father, 65-year-old Billie Shaw, with a lethal dose of propofol in 2008. His death was initially ruled a heart attack.

A tip prompted investigators to exhume his body. That's when they discovered Shaw had been murdered.

Prosecutors said Willoughby stood to inherit about $300,000 in the event of Shaw's death.

The judge sentenced Willoughby to 20 years in prison.
