Update: City council delays vote on shooting range in Sheffield

Posted: Updated:
SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -

Sheffield City Council members delayed voting on whether to keep operations at a shooting range open after noise complaints from the community.

The North Alabama Shooting Association has operated the range for the last three decades.

Club President Dwight Pilkilton said the range provides a number of community services to the Shoals, including a place for fellowship.

The range is also used by area law enforcement as a training facility, and the club maintains the area is at no cost to the city.

WAFF 48 asked viewers on our Facebook whether or not they think the shooting range should be shut down or remain open. Most viewers left comments in favor of keeping the range open.

Sources tell WAFF 48 the city council members tabled the discussion for two weeks.
