LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

According to the National Chicken Council, Americans will eat 1.25 billion chicken wings during Super Bowl Sunday. That is three times the normal amount eaten and provides a boost for Alabama's robust poultry industry.

Limestone County poultry farmer David Ruf said he sells about a million chickens a year, and that he is glad wings are so popular.

"Anytime consumers can up what they're eating three times, it's got to be good for business," he said.

Alabama's poultry industry makes $9.4 billion a year, making the state the third-largest poultry producing state.

Ruf said he will be like many of the estimated 150 million Americans watching the New York Giants battle the New England Patriots for the Lombardi Trophy.

"Wings are a good safe product. Nutritious to eat. You can bet I'm going to eat my share," he said.
