JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Drug agents in Jackson County seized yet another large amount of spice. This time it was in the city of Hollywood.
Officers with the Hollywood Police Department were conducting a license checkpoint at the intersection of County Roads 33 and 105 on Thursday. That's when they found the spice.
Approximately a pound and a half of the drug believed to be spice was seized from the vehicle. Assorted items were also seized with the spice, but no arrests were made.
Jackson County officials say they must first determine it is spice in order to make an arrest. The drug is so new they have not yet received any test kits to determine probable cause.
"Well, he was not charged at this time because this substance has to be tested by a lab before we can come up with our proof that that is what it is. We have to send it off to the lab. Once it's analyzed and if it does come back as being this spice, or legal weed, they will be charged at a later date," said Jackson County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen.
Chief Harnen said it could take up to a year to get the results back from forensics.
