HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A fire damaged part of a condominium complex on Lincoln Avenue near Clinton Avenue early Friday morning.

Firefighters got the call around 3 a.m. They responded to Lincoln Square Condominiums and found flames shooting through the roof of the building.

About 20 people who live in the building and their pets managed to get out OK.

Fire officials said they had to fight the fire from adjacent units because it had already burned a hole in the floor below the attic. They said they could not bring in the ladder truck to fight the fire from above because there was not enough space in the area.

Firefighters kept the fire contained to the original unit and the attic area. About 30 Huntsville Fire crew members responded to the scene.

Neighbors said the unit where the fire started was un-occupied and under renovation.

Fire investigators have not named a cause of the fire.
