JENKINS LEADS LIONS TO 67-62 WIN OVER NO. 19 WEST GEORGIA

FLORENCE – Theron Jenkins recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead the University of North Alabama men's basketball team to a 67-62 win over No. 19 West Georgia Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. The win evens the Lions' GSC record at 4-4 on the year and secures the season sweep over the Wolves. West Georgia falls to 18-4 on the season with two of the team's four losses coming to UNA.

Three-point shooting helped the home team once again as the Lions (12-8 overall) connected on 8-of-20 attempts from long range. During UNA's four-game home stand, the Lions hit 41 three-pointers, going 3-1 during the stretch with the lone loss coming at the hands of No. 12 Alabama-Huntsville.

On Thursday, West Georgia made just five three-point baskets and struggled from the free throw line. The Wolves were just 9-of-22 from the charity stripe on the night.

North Alabama held a 35-28 lead at the half, after Beaumont Beasley found Nathan Spear for a three-pointer with two seconds remaining.

UWG, however, responded in the opening minutes of the second half. The Wolves used a 9-0 run to grab a brief 37-35 lead at the 17:47 mark. West Georgia led by as many as four over the final 20 minutes of play but could never pull away.

A pair of free throws by Jenkins broke a 62-62 tie with 1:22 remaining and the Lions maintained the lead down the stretch by going 5-of-6 from the foul line.

Beasley finished the game with 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers. West Georgia was led by Da'Ron Sims, who recorded a game-high 25 points for the game.

UNA will wrap up a five-game home stand on Saturday with another key GSC contest against West Alabama. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
