DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - School officials say
they're investigating after a student was accused of hacking into a
Decatur City Schools data file that contained personal information of
current and former students.
Technology Director Kathy Rains said the student apparently breached the file while looking for teacher
usernames and passwords so he could bypass school system filters to look
at blocked websites.
Rains said he was using a desktop in a monitored area of his school within the school system network.
Superintendent Sam Houston
and Rains said it doesn't appear the student tried to access and change
grades or tamper with financial records.
School officials didn't release the student's name, nor did they say which school the student attends.
