JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's basketball team learned on Monday that it will host Presbyterian on Feb. 18 in the Gamecocks' matchup from the Sears BracketBusters pool.
The Gamecocks (9-14, 4-6 Ohio Valley Conference) were paired with the Blue Hose (8-13, 2-9 Big South Conference) as one of the 71 matchups that came out of the pool of 142 teams in this year's BracketBusters. It is the same opponent that was sent to JSU in 2010 in the same event.
The Gamecocks have faced Presbyterian in each of the past two seasons, with the Blue Hose winning both games. JSU traveled to Clinton, S.C., to return the 2009-10 pairing and will have to make another return trip next season in response to this year's matchup.
The only meeting between the two schools that hasn't been a result of the BracketBusters came in the 1971-72 season, when the two Division II programs squared off in JSU's Stephenson Hall. The Gamecocks won that game, 102-78.
JSU has started to turn the corner a bit in the OVC race, having won three in a row and four of its last six games, while PC has fallen on hard times in the Big South race. After an 8-6 start that saw them win at No. 20 Cincinnati, The Blue Hose have dropped seven in a row.
Al'Lonzo Coleman and Khalid Mutakabbir are averaging 15.3 and 14.1 points per game, respectively, to lead Presbyterian, while Coleman's 7.6 rebounds per game are best on the team.
