Parents upset over ex-convict working on Marshall County school

MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Some school parents in Marshall County are upset about a contractor who was hired to do some work on one of their campuses. The contractor is a former police officer who is also a convicted felon. Parents claim they were never informed about it.

Former Arab Police Officer, Shane Alldredge, was convicted of four felony ethics violations for soliciting sexual favors in exchange for dismissing traffic tickets for female drivers.

He was also arrested after serving time for that offense on domestic violence charges involving his estranged wife and two children. His company, called Alldredge Family Remodeling, was hired to fix the leaking roof and walls on Grassy Elementary School's gym.

But the Grassy PTO President said nobody at the school was told about it.

"They should have had the courtesy to inform the principal who was coming to work the bad had happened," said Jimmy Harden.

Alldredge is not a convicted sex offender, but Harden said some parents are still concerned, given the sexual nature of his crime. And even though Alldredge served his time, some of the parents still have a problem with this.

"Whether he's guilty of what he's charged with, I don't know. He either pled guilty or was convicted. Certain things you do, you have to pay more for the crime than you want to pay," said Harden.

Harden also added even though Alldredge worked on the roof of the gym, it still leaks.

WAFF 48 News attempted to reach the Marshall County School system but neither the superintendent nor the assistant superintendent returned our phone calls.

We spoke with Shane Alldredge, who's at the center of this, and he said he's not a sex offender. He calls the parents claims, "politically motivated."
