Business owners on alert after sexual assault in Madison

Business owners and employees in the area around Hastings Coffee Shop are on alert after a teen was violently attacked while leaving work.

Investigators said the attacker has reddish-blonde hair and blue eyes. He's between five feet, eight inches tall and six feet tall and weighs between 170 and 200 pounds. They released a sketch of the man that attacked the girl outside of the coffee shop on Highway 72 Tuesday night.

The subject likely has scratches on his face and hands according to investigators.

The business owners in the area said this violent attack has them rethinking the way they close down at night.

Some of the businesses said they are considering bringing in security late at night to keep an eye on staff. One business is planning on having at least four people leave together when they walk to the parking lot at closing time.

Investigators said they have received leads in the case since the story first aired Thursday night. They also said it's a major priority to get the offender behind bars.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Madison County Sheriff's Department.
