MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

Madison County authorities continue their search for a rapist. Investigators said they have received several leads in the case since media reports began running Thursday afternoon.

Investigators said a teenage female was leaving work at Hastings Coffee Shop when she was attacked by an unknown man.

The offender sexually assaulted the victim just after 7 p.m. Tuesday outside of the business on Highway 72 in Madison.

Southern Sensations dance studio is a few feet from Hastings. Owner Shannon Clift says they were the only business open after the attack and that's where the victim went for help.

"It was frightening," Clift said. "She's a young girl and she was covered in blood and it was quite scary."

Investigators have potential suspects but are looking for a white man between five feet, eight inches and six feet tall weighing 170 to 200 pounds. The offender has reddish-blond hair cut short and blue eyes.

At the time of offense he was wearing a green shirt, blue jeans, a mask and boots. Investigators released a computer generated picture based on the description of the subject.

Investigators said the victim did not know her attacker and that this was a very violent assault. The attacker will likely have injuries, including scratch marks possibly on his hands and face.

Investigators are looking into whether this could possibly be a targeted crime.

Clift said she and her staff are keeping their eyes open.

"We spoke with all of our classes, our parents and our students and my landlord put up more lights around the building and we just told everyone to be more cautious and more aware of their surroundings and what's going on," Clift said.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information about this crime or offender to notify the Criminal Investigations Division immediately by calling 256-533-8820.
