BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) -
Police in Bessemer are investigating a shooting at Torme Associated Foods on 20th Street North and 5th Avenue. Bessemer police recieved a call about the shooting just before 7:00 a.m on Thursday.
Officers say the shooting began as a robbery, but it escalated into a shooting. The person killed in the shooting, a store employee, has been identified as Horace Neil Smith, 62, confirms the Jefferson County coroner's office. Another employee was wounded in the shooting and taken to the hospital for treatment.
They believe that two male suspects were involved in the shooting. Both are currently at large and police believe they are armed. Police have not yet released descriptions of the suspects.
The management of Torme's is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. Anyone with any knolwedge or information relating to the shooting is urged to call 205-481-4366, 205-481-4360, or 205-425-2411.
