Marshall County woman helping tornado survivors for third time

GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The people of Marshall County know all too well the damage tornadoes can cause. There is still damage in Marshall County, and they know how important it is to help their neighbors to the south get the aid they need.

It's not her job, but Misty Caldwell is now very familiar with tornado recovery efforts.

"Two years ago, we started the Albertville Clothes Closet, and we clothed probably 100 families," said Caldwell.

The tornado two years ago in Albertville left a need, and so did the storms of April 27th.

"We all got together and started cooking for the community, and we helped workers out there cleaning up debris, chopping wood and everything after the April 27th storms," she said.

Now another need is there – not in Marshall County but in several other counties across the state. With the help of her church family at Welcome Bethel Church in the Sims Community, Misty's at it again.

"Without them I couldn't be doing this," Caldwell said.

She's collecting supplies through Friday, hoping to get them to affected areas this weekend, and she's doing it with people who know what's needed on the long road to recovery.

"Out of 10 people you'll have 10 people who have a related story," added Caldwell.

Caldwell can be reached at 256-486-1223. She will be at 412 Welcome Bethel Church Road on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
