Streets of Speed: River bridge called a speeding hot spot by drivers

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Thousands of people drive over the Tennessee River Bridge everyday, but how many actually pay attention to the speed limit?

Debra Bokash drives I-65 almost everyday, that includes crossing the river bridge. Most of the driver's we clocked were within the speed limit. However, we clocked a few cars and 18 wheelers speeding across the bridge at over 80-miles-per-hour.

"I think people speed on the bridge because there is no place for police to pull you over on the bridge. I think they gun it on the bridge," said driver Debra Bokash.

Through the years, there have been a number of bad wrecks on the north and south bound lanes. State Troopers said speed is often the problem.

Bokash said it's not worth getting into an accident trying to speed to your destination.

If you know of a road or highway where people speed email Elizabeth Gentle at egentle@waff.com or leave a comment on her Facebook page.
