MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A washed out road in Marshall County is getting a makeover after damage from overnight storms on Monday. It happened on Winkles Road just outside the town of Grant.

Crew with backhoes and other heavy equipment arrived early Tuesday morning to repair damage done after torrential rainfall.

Commissioner James Maze said a drainage pipe collapsed, and that is what prompted the problem.

Maze said two 48-inch pipes are to be replaced with two others and an additional pipe to help insure proper runoff in the future.

Road repair was delayed a day in order to obtain the new pipe. Commissioner Maze said it was an all day ordeal.

"You have to proceed slowly until you get all the gas lines and water lines located.  We got water, sewer and my whole crew out here because this is a big job," he said.

Commissioner Maze said the new pipe has now been installed, utility lines reestablished, and the roadway should be completed and open by noon on Wednesday.
