LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
EMA officials are keeping a close watch on water levels in Lawrence County.
Their concern is on Big Nance Creek, which they say is already above flood stage.
Water levels continue to rise along Big Nance Creek in Courtland after severe weather rolled through the area Sunday night.
Officials said Tuesday morning they measured it at 14.8 feet of water. They said 14 feet is the actual flood stage for them. They expect these levels to rise through the overnight hours, and they could peak at about 15.5 feet.
Just to put it into perspective for you, officials said when Big Nance Creek hits about 16 feet, that is when residents can start to see water covering the roadways. So far, there have been no reports of any flooding over any roadways.
Officials said they don't expect to see any home and building damage due to flooding, but they do say the increase in water levels could cause some roadway flooding.
The last time the creek hit flood stage was in January, 2010. Officials said the creek crested at 15.4 feet.
