MEMPHIS – Christian Brothers took a 38-22 lead at the half and never let its lead slip to single digits the rest of the way in a 79-51 victory over visiting North Alabama Thursday evening in Gulf South Conference men's basketball action. The 11th-ranked Buccaneers shot 44.3 percent from the floor to remain perfect at 5-0 in GSC play, while UNA fell to 2-3 in the league standings.
The Lions (9-7 overall) made a season-low two three-point baskets and were out-rebounded 52-37 for the game.
Three players reached double digits in scoring for CBU (14-2 overall), including Zack Warner's double-double that included 27 points and 12 rebounds. Theron Jenkins led the Lions with 12 points on the night.
North Alabama got off to a slow start offensively, hitting just 8-of-25 field goal attempts in the first half. Three-point shooting proved an even tougher assignment for the Lions at Canale Arena. UNA was just 1-of-9 from three-point range in the first half and hit just 1-3 three-pointers in the second half.
Jenkins was 4-of-11 from the floor and managed only four points in the second half as CBU outscored the Lions 41-29 over the final 20 minutes of play.
The Lions will return home Saturday for another key GSC showdown. The Lions will host Delta State with tip-off set for 3 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
