State lawmakers in are getting the ball rolling with job creation in Alabama.
Republican representatives in Madison County are pushing a jobs package in the next legislative session, which will convene on February 7.
A proposal to provide tax incentives for businesses that hire veterans recently returning from war is one among several bills that make up the jobs package.
In a press release, Alabama House Majority Caucus members said the incentives as a whole could improve Alabama's economy by the end of the year, if passed.
Rep. Phil Williams (R-Huntsville) is leading the initiative. He served as chairman of a committee that gathered ways to encourage job creation.
"They traveled all across the state and listened to ideas from small business owners," Rep. Mike Ball (R-Madison) said.
Lawmakers are also highlighting another bill that could provide jobs training in the state's two-year college system.
Rep. Ball said he expects many of the incentives to pass but said the sticking point is making it easier for businesses to operate.
