Flooding closes roads in Morgan County

MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Morgan County Emergency Management officials said side roads near the river in the eastern part of the county remained submerged by water Wednesday night.

Officials said around a dozen roads in Laceys Spring and Morgan City were impassable. They warned drivers needed to take extra caution when approaching back roads.

Flooding in the lower-lying parts of western Morgan county forced the closing of Targum Road in Danville. The road was submerged under two-to-three feet of water Wednesday afternoon.

District Two County Commissioner Randy Vest said that area gets flooded frequently during a heavy downpour.

"There's a stretch of road here between four and 500 yards that's in under water; about a quarter of a mile. It should stay this way until about 8 tomorrow morning, and then it should be passable. You will go in under water and have problems if you try to navigate through here," said Vest.

Emergency officials said New Cut Road in the Massey area was too dangerous to cross. They also said roads in Eva and Falkville that may not be closed could also be dangerous.
