Council votes to suspend Sylvania police chief

DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Sylvania police chief is suspended without pay for official misconduct on the job.

The council voted late Tuesday to suspend Sylvania Police Chief Brad Gregg for one month without pay and one year probation.

Sylvania Mayor Mitchell Dendy declined to comment on the incident but said it was misconduct while on duty.

"Everybody makes mistakes in life. Everybody deserves second chances. We felt like we done what would be right for him and his family and we feel like we done what would be right for the citizens of the town of Sylvania," said Mayor Dendy.

Mayor Dendy said assistant Police Chief Ross Greenwood will serve in his absence.

Gregg has served as Sylanvia police chief for the last five years.
