If you ask Shumuriel Ratliff what she wants to be "when she grows up," she will tell you she is living her dream.

Shumuriel joined WAFF 48 in December 2011. Shumuriel is a native of Monroe, NC.  (A suburb of Charlotte, NC) Prior to arriving in the Rocket City, Shumuriel was a reporter for WCTI-TV 12 in New Bern, NC.  She joined the ABC affiliate in August 2010 and covered everything from the April 2011 tornadoes to Hurricane Irene.

Shumuriel received her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Winston-Salem State University.  While at WSSU, Shumuriel wrote for the school paper, the News Argus.  She also worked with the school TV station, Ram-TV. That's where Shumuriel was given the opportunity to try all aspects of the business like producing, editing, reporting and more.

While still trying to find her niche in the TV business, Shumuriel interned at WXII 12 News in Winston-Salem, NC. That was when she figured out what she wanted to do, tell stories.

That internship allowed Shumuriel to get her break in the news business behind-the-scenes as a production assistant and web reporter for WXII-12.

When Shumuriel is not hard at work, you can find her shopping or exploring the town.  Being born and raised in the south, Shumuriel is full of southern hospitality, so feel free to e-mail Shumuriel to say "Hi" or drop a story idea.
