Huntsville Police Department's Incident Review Board has cleared the officers involved in the December 12th shootout with Samuel Ward.
Spokesman Dr. Harry Hobbs said the board met Wednesday to review evidence and hear testimony surrounding the shooting incident.
Huntsville Police say officers were in the process of arresting Ward for a drug charge. They said Ward physically resisted arrest, produced a handgun and fired at the officers.
The officers returned fire and Ward fell to the ground. The officers then handcuffed Ward and called an ambulance.
Ward spent a week in Huntsville Hospital recovering from his injuries. He was booked into the Metro Jail on December 20th.
According to police, there is video evidence of the incident that will be used to prosecute Ward for the attempted murder of two police officers, possession of a concealed weapon without a permit and buying/receiving stolen property.
Police said the weapon Ward used in the shooting was stolen. Ward is expected to be in court at the beginning of January.
