BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

An Albertville was arrested and charged with having sexual relations with a 12-year-old girl.

The girl's concerned parents were alerted to the relationship through social media and were able to nab the suspect at their home.

19-year-old James Juan Diego Gomez was booked into the Etowah County Jail on charges of rape, sodomy, and traveling to have sex with a child.

Boaz Police said they were called to a residence in the Mountainboro area on December 20 where the 12-year-old girl lived. That's where the girl's parents held Gomez until police arrived.

Officials said the parents learned about the relationship through the girl's Facebook page. Through the investigation, police learned that the relationship started during the month of October.

Boaz Deputy Chief Todd Adams said both the victim's and the suspect's computers have been seized as evidence.
