Lions 9th in preseason baseball poll

With five returning starters and 13 lettermen back from last season's team that went 37-14 and played in the NCAA Division II South Regional, the University of North Alabama baseball team is ranked ninth nationally in the pre-season poll released by College Baseball Lineup.

The Lions return their starting infield in first baseman Josh Cyr, second baseman Michael Schmidt, shortstop Josh Carpenter and third baseman J.P. LaMunyon, in addition to starting designated hitter/pitcher Jake Sloan.  Heading the list of UNA's returning pitchers are eight-game winners Chad Boughner and Johnny Hornbuckle.

UNA also has a favorable schedule in 2012, playing 34 of its 50 games at Mike Lane Field.

The Lions head coach, Mike Keehn, enters his fourth season at the school just two wins shy of 100, with an overall 98-58 record in three seasons.
