NEW ORLEANS, La., – Four New Orleans players reached double digits in scoring as the Privateers picked up an 81-63 home victory over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team Sunday afternoon at Lakefront Arena on the UNO campus. With the loss, UNA falls to 6-3 on the season.
The Lions led by as many as eight points early in the contest. A three-point basket by Theron Jenkins put UNA on top 19-11 with 10:48 remaining in the opening half. Jenkins scored nine of his team-high 16 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
UNO, however, was able to chip away at the deficit. The Privateers took their first lead of the game with 5:25 remaining in the half. A jumper put the home team on top 29-28 and the Privateers never trailed again.
After taking a 44-40 lead at the break, New Orleans opened the second half on a 12-3 run and never let the Lions get the score within single digits. Lovell Cook led all scorers with 21 points for UNO.
Warrick Mastin added 14 points for the Lions. UNA, however, had no other players reach double figures on the day.
UNA will return to action Dec. 30 and 31 in Pensacola, Fla. The Lions will face Virginia State and St. Augistine at the UWF Field House on the campus of West Florida. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. each day.
