Madison County firefighters battled a mobile home fire for more than three hours Friday morning.
The fire started around 3 a.m. on Boles Road. Crews had trouble finding the fire hydrant in the dark and that slowed down their efforts to put out the fire.
It rekindled at least twice while the WAFF 48 News crew was on the scene.
Firefighters cleared the scene just after 6 a.m. Several minutes later, flames reappeared inside the scorched frame of the home, forcing them to return to the scene once again.
The family tells WAFF the fire started in the bedroom. They say a cigarette that wasn't put out completely may have sparked the flames. One man suffered possibly third degree burns to his hands but refused medical treatment. Family members plan to take him to the hospital to be checked out.
