FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team has added four signees to the 2012-13 recruiting class. UNA head coach Terry Fowler has announced the addition of Dakota Doss, Joidon Jennings, Jennifer Towne and Rabun Wright during the early signing period.
The newcomers hale from four different states and will enter the program as true freshmen next season. Fowler said the additions will help the program continue to be successful. "We are extremely fortunate and excited about bringing these four student-athletes into our program," said Fowler. "All four have the ability to see immediate playing time for us. They are all highly-motivated individuals who have a proven track record of success academically and athletically."
Doss, a 5-11 guard from Memphis, Tenn., helped lead Briarcrest Christian to state runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2011. She averaged 12 points per game as a junior last season.
"Dakota is very skilled and has the ability to handle, pass and shoot really well," said Fowler. "She is a great fit for the way we play and has played an important role for one of the most successful programs in the state of Tennessee. We feel she has the ability to be a double-figure scorer and also be a leader in the UNA community."
Jennings averaged seven points, four rebounds and five assists per game last year at Bob Jones High School in Madison. The 5-7 guard was an all-area and all-state tournament selection for the Patriots in 2010 and 2011 and helped lead the team to the Class 6A state championship last season.
"After starting for one of the best programs in the southeast since her sophomore year, Joidon brings a winner's mentality," Fowler said. "She has the ability to finish at the basket and can also get her teammates good looks. Defensively, she already performs at the collegiate level."
Towne comes to UNA from Jonesboro, Ark. She scored 1,004 career points going into her senior year at Nettleton High School, including a 16.8 per-game average as a junior last season. She also added averages of 7.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game and was an All-State and all-state tournament selection the last two years. She was named the Jonesboro Sun Girls Player of the Year in 2009-10 and the Jonesboro Sun Best under the Sun in 2010-11.
"Jenni is a high motor athlete who plays bigger than her actual size," said Fowler. "She's very similar to past UNA players like Jameica York and Sanqueeta Meardith. She is comfortable playing all three guard spots and has the ability to finish plays consistently in traffic. She has the potential to be a great player for UNA on both sides of the floor."
Wright, a 5-5 guard from Clayton, Ga., helped lead Rabun County High School to a Region 8AA championship in 2010-11. She was an all-region selection after averaging eight points, five assists, three rebounds and four steals per game as a junior.
Fowler said, "Rabun is the consummate point guard. She has the ability to make everyone around her better. Having Wright is like
