HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Madison County deputies confirmed Nicholos Kirk Roberts was arrested over the weekend in connection to an attempted child abduction and subsequent high-speed chase.

Investigators said Roberts tried to lure two boys into his black pickup truck while they were playing in front of their home on Murphy Hill Road Saturday. Deputies said the boys stayed away from Roberts and later reported the encounter to their mother.

The mother informed her husband, who is a Huntsville Police Officer. He was off-duty at the time and went to look for Roberts.

The officer found him and questioned him, according to investigators. And that's when they said Roberts took off.

The father reported this to his department and the Madison County Sheriff's Department. Officers later spotted a truck matching the description near Bob Wade Lane.

They began chasing Roberts around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, moving south on Memorial Parkway. Officers said Roberts drove over spike strips at Medaris Road and lost control of the truck just before the I-565 exit.

Investigators said Roberts crashed into a guard rail and the truck caught on fire. Officers said Roberts was already out of the vehicle when the fire started.

Investigators took Roberts to Huntsville Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Roberts is in the Madison County jail under a $30,000 bond. He's charged with two counts of enticing a child.
