(RNN) - Don't worry if you look up in the early morning sky on Saturday, Dec. 10 and the moon looks a little weird. It's just a lunar eclipse.

Much of the United States may not be able to see eclipse which will begin at 6:33 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m. EST, which is 3:33 to 9:30 a.m. on the West Coast, because moon will be setting as the eclipse occurs.

According to NASA, a lunar eclipse is when the "Earth comes between the sun and the moon so that all or part of the sun's light is blocked from the moon." Sunlight passing through the earth's atmosphere will "cast a glow on the moon." The earth's atmosphere filters out blue light, leaving only the orange and red colors, changing the moon into a dark shade of red once the earth is completely blocking the sun.

Lunar eclipses are able to be viewed with the naked eye, unlike solar eclipse.

If you miss this eclipse, you will have to wait awhile. The next lunar eclipse won't occur until April, 14, 2014, however, you can watch a live stream of the event at Slooh.com, which is an online space camera.
