BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After averaging 10.5 points and 8.5 rebounds last week against Samford and Troy last week, Jacksonville State forward Briana Morrow was named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Morrow, out of Glencliff High School in Nashville, Tenn., turned in back-to-back double figure scoring outings against Samford and Troy. She posted her third double-double of her young career versus the Bulldogs with a team-high ten points and 11 rebounds. In the Samford match up, Morrow connected on 4-of-8 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers. Morrow was one of the catalysts in helping the Gamecocks turn back Troy last Sunday. She finished with 11 points and six rebounds in the contest. Morrow put up solid numbers across the stat sheet in both Jax State games last week. She was credited with a pair of assists and steals and a blocked shot.
On the season, Morrow ranks third on the squad in points, averaging 10.3 a game and leads JSU in rebounds with a 7.8 rebounding mark. Her rebounding mark ranks fifth overall in the OVC.
Morrow becomes the first Gamecock rookie to claim an OVC weekly honor since junior Danielle Vaughn earned the league's weekly freshman honor in January of 2010.
The Gamecocks return to action on Thursday, Dec. 15 as they travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for a three-game trip in the city. JSU will face former Atlantic Sun foe Jacksonville on Dec. 15 before taking part in the University of North Florida's Osprey Holiday Classic on Dec. 17 and 18.
