Small plane crash in Lawrence County

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and fire crews responded to a small plane crash at the Courtland Airport.

It happened around noon Sunday.

Sheriff Gene Mitchell said a WWII kit-type single engine plane went flying, lost altitude and skidded into the ground.

The plane crash-landed in a corn field next the airport.

The pilot, Steve Haase, was taken to Huntsville Hospital where he was in good condition.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident.
