FLORENCE – Dana Jackson had 21 points and connected on five three-point baskets to lead the University of North Alabama women's basketball team to a 76-63 win over Stillman Tuesday evening at Flowers Hall. The senior from Winchester, Tenn., hit half of the Lions' 10 three-pointers while the visiting Tigers went 0-for-16 from beyond the arc.
With the victory, UNA climbs above the .500 mark for the season with a 4-3 record. Stillman falls to 1-2 with the loss.
North Alabama had trouble finding its offensive rhythm early and trailed by as many as eight points in the first half. Trailing 30-22 at the 6:29 mark of the opening half, five different UNA players contributed on a 13-4 run to close the period. A jumper by Jazmine Saxton with 37 seconds remaining gave UNA just its second lead of the game and the Lions took a 35-34 lead at the break.
North Alabama never trailed in the second half as the Lions raced out to a double digit lead in the first five minutes of play.
Lacy Lewis connected on four three-pointers and finished with 15 points while Jasmine Horne added 10 points and eight assists on the night. Freshman Corinne White also turned in 10 points, all coming in the second half.
The UNA women will be back in action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. tip-off at Paine College.
