Wallace State bench propels Lady Lions basketball to comfortable victory over Motlow State; WSCC men lose nightcap
HANCEVILLE – Freshmen forwards Morgan Henry and Lauren Harris combined for 27 points off the bench and the Wallace State women's basketball team rolled to a comfortable 87-63 victory over Motlow State (Tenn.) Tuesday night at Tom Drake Coliseum, breaking a three-game losing skid.
Henry finished with 15 bench points and four rebounds, Harris had 12 points and four rebounds and Fort Payne's Taylor Dean added nine bench points in the first half, connecting on 3-of-3 three-point attempts to help Wallace State (4-4) beat the Lady Buccaneers for the second time this month.
"I told the women this was a complete team win. We all came to play. We played hard in every phase and ran away with it early. That's what we needed," said first-year Wallace State coach Ron Burdette. "Our bench was solid and every player contributed. Seeing everyone contribute is what's important to me."
Wallace State, who was 6-for-12 behind the 3-point line in the first half, led 42-26 at halftime and extended the cushion to 52-28 early in the second half on a pair of buckets from Danville's Ashley Nance and Tacouya Allen.
Motlow State (3-4) never got closer than within 15 points the remainder of the game.
Nance poured in 16 points and had nine rebounds for Wallace State, Arkia Armstrong had eight points and six assists, Allen finished with six points and nine rebounds, Haley Terry contributed seven points and Haley Stewart six.
For Motlow State, Callisha Johnson finished with a game-high 24 points, while Lekera Taylor had eight.
