Fmr. Morgan County teacher charged with vehicular homicide

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

A former teacher and coach has been indicted in connection with a deadly accident. A Limestone County grand jury indicted 28-year-old Rusty McIntyre for vehicular homicide.

McIntyre had been a physical education teacher at Somerville Road Elementary and an assistant baseball coach at Decatur High School. He resigned from the Decatur City School system three months after the fatal crash.

The victim, Anthony Cheek, Jr., died a the scene. It happened on Highway 20 near Highway 31 in Decatur on February 1st, 2010. Decatur police investigators said McIntyre crossed over the grassy median and crashed head-on into Cheek's car.

McIntyre, who now lives in Tennessee according to jail records, turned himself into Limestone County authorities and is now free on a $10,500 bond.
