UNA MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM ROUTS OAKWOOD 81-59

FLORENCE – For the second straight game, the University of North Alabama men's basketball team was able to empty its bench while cruising to a home victory. Twelve different players saw action in the Lions' 81-59 win over Oakwood Thursday evening at Flowers Hall. The win improves the team to 4-0 on the season as UNA prepares to play to games on the campus of the University of Montevallo next weekend.

On Thursday, the Lions led by as many as 31 points before letting reserves see double digits in playing time. Warrick Mastin was 7-of-9 from the floor to finish with 16 points while Theron Jenkins turned in his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds for UNA. Jenkins also finished the game with two blocks, an assist and three steals.

North Alabama made its run midway through the first half. A three-point basket by Mastin at the 7:07 mark started a 21-3 run the Lions used to close the half with. Beaumont Beasley ended the spurt with a layup in the final minute to give UNA a 39-18 lead at the break.

In the second half, Oakwood never got any closer than 17 points. Every dressed out player on the UNA bench saw playing time over the final 20 minutes of play. For the game, the UNA bench accounted for 41 points, including a layup by Lazar Petrov that gave the Lions their largest lead at 64-33 with 6:08 remaining.

Freshman Nathan Spehr finished with 13 points, including three of the Lions' 12 three-point baskets on the night. Tyler Richardson also finished with a season-high 11 points for UNA.

The UNA men will be in action on Friday, Nov. 25, against Georgia Southwestern. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Montevallo's BankTrust Arena. The following day, the Lions will take on host Montevallo at 4 p.m.
