Scottsboro officers suspended due to violating city policy

Posted: Updated:
SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) -

Four Scottsboro Police officers are facing suspensions. And neither the mayor nor police chief is saying who or why. The suspensions were handed down last Thursday at the Scottsboro Police Department.

The mayor declined an on camera interview. He said they are not trying to cover up anything and that the reason for not releasing the names and the reason why is because there is no evidence any criminal laws were violated.

Scottsboro Mayor Melton Potter confirms four officers have been suspended. Two officers were suspended for three days while the other two officers were suspended for four days.

Mayor Potter said they have handled the situation internally. He added there is no evidence any criminal laws were violated. If they had the names and charges would have been released.

Potter said the suspensions were for violation of city policy.

Because of manpower concerns, Police Chief Ralph Dawe said the suspensions will not all be taken at one time, rather staggered between the parties.
